Cannes, once more. MIDEM 2009. Same crowd, just smaller. Organizers in search of ways to boost participation: laudable but perhaps futile – it’s just the state of the industry...
Experienced best connection from Toronto: Zurich. Definitely, having come through Paris, London and Frankfurt in the past. One hour layover on the way in, 2 on the way out. Zurich airport easy to navigate.
Staying once more in same rented flat. Liking this place: relatively comfortable, space, well located, walking distance to Le Palais and affordable. Only inconvenience is the 3-floor stairs with my luggage...
Took advantage of annual sale – anywhere between 50% and 70% off. Still, no bargain – the Euro is so damn high: 1.6 against the C$!
Few discoveries: Barbarella, a “fusion” restaurant, original – food, decor and people. In Le Suquet. Antique bookstore, Librairie Rossignol. Just off mercantile Antibes Street. Small oasis of culture and tranquility, next to the tohu-bohu of shopping maddening crowds. Bring back a few books on favourite subjects – China; T.E. Lawrence...
Nourishment at the usual – Le Göéland, La Pizza, La Potinière, La Libera, La Mère Besson, Ondine. A few new places aside Barbarella: al Gambero, Da Laura.
A day or two of sun; mostly rainy overall. Damp. Cold around 6 to 9 degrees – a marked improvement nonetheless over Toronto’s -29 degrees with the windchill...
